Teddies for Loving Care

Teddies for Loving Care

  • TLC is a registered charity operated by, and funded with, donations from freemasons
  • TLC started in the UK & has spread to Ireland, Cyprus, Spain, USA, South Africa and Australia
  • Teddy Bears are supplied to Hospital A&E s and Minor Injury Units all over the World
  • The Scheme donates the teddy bears to hospital staff, which are given at their discretion to children who are admitted, in severe distress, where the staff feel that a teddy to cuddle will help to relieve that distress and will aid the staff in giving required treatment
  • The idea began following the resuscitation of a Freemason’s wife in an Essex A&E unit following an allergic reaction. The couple were so grateful for the caring attention they received during this traumatic experience that they vowed to do something useful as a “thank you” and discussions with his lodge led to the scheme being founded.
  • Over 90% of the funds required to relieve these severely distressed children is donated by Freemasons in the local areas where the Teddies are distributed
    • Lodges hold raffles or put on other fund raising events
    • A small amount is raised by parents grateful for the support the scheme has provided to their children
  • The TLC Appeal enables Freemasons to make a positive difference in local communities
  • It provides relief to distressed toddlers
  • It raises public awareness of the contribution Freemasonry makes to the community and demonstrates the principles of Freemasonry
  • The teddies are greatly appreciated by the recipients, their parents and the hospital staff
